Hi
I only buy toys at the pet store. But today I looked in the baby section of the store. I found the cutest teething toy. It made of hard rubber and has a lot of color. It has little ridges like how a tooth brush would feel. The difference is this is rubber and tooth brushes of course are bristles. It is an animal and it has a bright nose. Bella loved it. I also bought a rattle that looks like a telephone hand piece for a old phone. She loved it as well. These toys are made well; they would have to be for a baby. I just wanted to suggest looking in the baby section.
I read that pacifiers are bad. Because they can be chewed and swallowed, causing suffocation. Of course the cold teething rings would pop and the liquid would not be good, but some of the toys were excellent and different from what I find elsewhere.

Hey Deb
Yeah baby toys are great!! I've been hunting around baby section, even little kids section. Apollo's foot toys are mainly human toys!! I found a huge ball that looks like a whiffle ball, but Apollo thinks it's too big!! LOL |

Thanks for putting this topic here Debi! Do you have a photo of that toy? I too buy babytoys for my fids..
I mostly buy that at rummage sales and I disinfect them then.
The electrical toys I buy in babystores..
Zazu loves his, and Iago too: Iago cannot stop pressing the buttons on his car steering wheel toy, resulting in a concert of beeps & motor horns.. |

I need to take more pictures of Bella with her toys. I will and then put them in the Diary that I did the other day. Some times I think Bella has too many toys on the bottom of the cage. I think I will take some of them out. She is really good with new things, and moving her stuff around. After the mistake I made by being her only human, I have tried to make her more open to new things, and people.
The surprising thing is some of the things she does are just like the book I bought says she will do. I guess she read the book first.
Today my son came over and she walked over to him and climbed on his lap, but would not let him pet her. Then I was holding her and she tried to pet her and she bit me. The book said that would happen. Her bites are so mild though especially compare to our last bird, who would take a chunk of skin. |

He may or may not like it, but I've pretty much given up trying to give toys that made sound!!! He's just such a scaredy bird... He does like little shakers and rattler though.. So I'm not sure what's his problem is with other toys. Who knows... |

Sam loves his toys! To keep up with him I do buy baby toys at garage sales...you should see the faces of folks when I tell them that is for my birds!
Emmie is scared for a few days then she is ok with them, Sam will literally bag his new toy around then after a day or two will play with it, Otis is gentler with his new toys. |

Pepe has mostly children's toys. I have a 10yo brother who has many small childhood toys that he doesn't need anymore so Pepe gets to play with them now. What can I say, I'm cheap! His cage floor usually has a variety of little plastic animals that he likes to chew or bang around his cage until they get covered in poop (and what a pain they are to clean, grrr!). He seems to really enjoy playing with them though and it's so amusing to watch him
Oh, I also tried my hand at making a toy for him a few weeks ago and he absolutely loved it, I was so excited (the toy I made actually looks like crap though) |

Picasso loves those little fury toys, he grabs them and tosses them in the air, it's funny to see these little dogs flying up in the air from behind the lounge when you can't see him, looks like one of those comedy skits where someone is rummaging through stuff looking for something
He also has a fluffy bunny with a bell inside, I shake it up and say "where's your teady" he runs around and hides behind the lounge peeking out from behind it and laughing before jumping on it.
I bought him a rubber ducky that squeeks but he's scared of it.
He also likes cat toys but it's hard to find ones that don't look like he'll tear them to bits in 5 seconds flat, he likes the little mice with bells inside and the ones that you pull out the string and it jumps around, I hold it for him and he pulls the string and bats it as it winds back in, his fav is a ball with a bell inside.
I put all his toys in a box and let him rummage through it tossing out his fav ones to play with. |

I really like the idea of putting the toys together and letting Picasso choose his toys.
I work all day and that would be a great together activity before I leave. Call it the Play Day time. I am always looking for ways to get some quality time in before I go to work.
I need to go back to the store and find some more toys. The piano sounded great. We have a baby's R US and I will go there they are usually well priced and I think I would get a 10% discount because my Son is a manager for Toys R Us. I am just not sold on the toys I find at the bird store. I have tried making toys as well. I have made some that Bella loves.

Bih, Manu is scared of things that make noise too
Hubby brought some blocks of wood home that he's cut into different sizes & I've got some sisal rope & some lengths of plastic chain that I'm going to use to make toys with, but I want to color the wood first. I know I can use food coloring, but does any one know HOW I use it? Do I just soak the wood in food coloring/water, or do I have to add vinegar to the solution, like when dyeing Easter Eggs? |
