| A wee question... |
|
|
Hi all, its good to be back. I've not been online in about 1.5 years due to my work commitments.
Things have finally settled down and im ready to buy a baby parrot. The Caique I was supposed to get fell through because of my new job.
I am looking for either a pionus, cocktatiel, green cheek conure, hawkhead or senegal parrot.
Which in from the order of 1-5 (1 being best) would you say would be better pets in terms of not too noisy, dont need alot of attention (I work 8 hours per day) not agressive but loving and cuddly (love to play)
Thanks all.
P.S does anyone know if there is anyone in Scotland that breed those parrots? |

I've got a Senegal and he's lovely - not noisy at all though he makes the qutest little chirps when he's happy and calls after me when I exit into another room. And he's got the perfect balance between playfulness and loving his cuddles - just be careful, they tend to destroy all one's stationary...
Oh and I also work (at least) 8 hours a day, and he's more than fine with it, I just leave him lots of toys in his cage to play with and he's enormously happy.
Couldn't go wrong with a senny!! |

Is there any downsides to owning one?
I work full time, so does my boyfriend and we like to vacation twice a year. I'd need to find someone to looking after my parrot when we're gone.
Are they hard to look after? I've had hand reared budgies in the past and loved them. |

Well, I think the biggest thing about owning any bird is that it's a commitment, much like having a kid. My sennie is very easy to look after - he eats whatever I give him and likes playing in or out of his cage. The only thing that can sometimes be annoying is that they are obsessed with biting stuff - hence the loads of toys and broken pens and stuff that I have for him.
As for vacation - I've been away for a couple of times and left him either with my brother or a friend, and each time he was very happy there, though enormously pleased when he saw me again (couldn't for the life of me get him to stop giving me kisses! ). In fact I might go overseas for further study for a month or two next year and he'll probably stay with my parents. You must just make them used to this sort of arrangement from early stages already, then they should be fine. Hope this helps! |
