| Safe Branches for Chewing |
|
|
Goffey will be moving in with me over the weekend and I was wondering whether it would be safe for him to have forsythia branches to chew.
I dug up a large forsythia shrub about a week ago and I've been reading how to prepare branches for birds i.e. disinfecting them and baking them in the oven at 250 degrees for an hour.
I don't use chemicals or insecticides in my garden and it isn't next to a road so there woudn't be an issue with residue from fuel fumes.
Although I can't find information which says that forsythia is poisonous, I can't find information which states that it's not.
If it was safe there would be enough to keep Goffey, Mischief and Tim happy for months.
Has anyone any more information? |

I went to this site - http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml But they don't list it either. You could try & email the man who set up this site - he's an arborist [?] or something & is into birds.
On any sites that listed Forsythia & birds they only seem to talk about it being an excellent plant to attract birds to your yard because it is great for nesting & hiding.
I'd keep asking tho ...
Found one!

Hi, thanks for the reply, I just found a page from the Missouri National Poison Centre which lists Forsythia as non toxic. Apparently it somes from the Olive family of plants.
Goffey and friends will be getting branches to chew on for some time to come as it was a pretty big bush we dug up. |
