All parrots that are breeded must have a ring (newer and sometimes also allowed is a chip implanted) to identify the parrot. With the numbers and letters a parrot is identified, that is if he would get lost and found they can trace back the breeder. From the breeder they can find you as his owner.
Also if you write down the numbers and your Sidney would get lost or stolen, you can tell the animal shelters, avian vets, police etc. that you have lost your bird. With giving them his ringnumber you make it easier for them that if your Sidney gets found to trace him back to you in stead of first going to the breeder.
The letters and digits most of the time contain a breeders code, a code for the national avian federation AND a year of birth.
