I'm not really worried about it, but my Grey has a grey feather on his tail....just one.....I was just wondering if I SHOULD be worried...or if it's just an out of place grey feather....

I've seen other CAG with a 'lost' grey feathers or two on the tails, I think it's nothing to worry about.. I think.. |

How old is your grey? If he's a baby then it's normal and once he goes through a moult it'll be replaced by a red feather, but if he's older it could be a sign of malnutrition and you might have to adjust his diet. |

Don't get scared, it doesn't necissarily mean that in every case, but I've read that it can be a sign of malnutrition. Would you describe his red feathers as a vibrant red, or are they more orangey red? In any case, I'm not sure what brand of pellets you feed, but make sure they're plain, with no added colour or sugar. I think you mentioned that you give your birds nutriberries on another topic (sorry if that wasn't you), make sure you read the ingredients on your nutriberrie's bag, they used to contain ethoxyquin wich is highly toxic to animals. I've seen some stores still carry the ones with that ingredient, so make sure yours don't have it. I would only feed nutriberries as a once in a while treat any way, because I'm pretty sure it has sugar and lots of preservatives. |

*Update* almost as soon as I changed his diet, Oskars tail became so much brighter, and the Grey feather on his tail started fading.....he now has just one little spot where the grey used to be....it's funny really...... |

That's funny to hear. Remarkable what a diet can do, isn't it? Perhaps it's also the time of year? |

I'm glad to hear this I saw the exact same change in my Grey when I converted her to Harrison's. She didn't have any grey in her tail, but the red was dull and washed out, and she also used to chew her feathers.. probably was allergic to the coloured pellets they were feeding her at the pet store. |
